Tired Of Judgment?

She sat in an empty row in the dark of The Mind Theater. Quietly watching me in the spotlight, clipboard in hand, pen poised and ready to notate my every little mistake.

At the end of the day she went over every little detail of every move and error I had taken. Over and over and over again. Her brow was furrowed, her lips pierced, her hazel eyes looking at me in disgust and judgement.

This went on daily for years.

Obviously this theater critic is an embodiment of what our Inner Critic looks like; A mean, judgmental, unhappy version of ourselves.

Would anyone subject themselves to this kind of treatment in the real world? No! So why do we allow it in our thoughts? Our inner sanctum?

Somewhere along the way we’ve accepted that talking to ourselves in negative self-talk, doubting ourselves and measuring ourselves against those we see as more successful, popular or “better” was OK.

Society has glorified self-deprecating words and always feeling “less than” so they can sell magazines, the next best diet pill, or whatever else they are peddling to Fix You.

Hear me when I say this…

You. Do. Not. Need. Fixing!

You are perfect just the way that you are. You are more than what your outer shell looks like. You are more than what you do for a living. You are more than what others may or may not think of you.

You are a collection of miracles. Just to be born there were a lot of perfect circumstances that had to happen. You’ve been leading your life to the best of your abilities thus far- and if you disagree with that statement, you can choose to start doing it right now.

You have something that no one else on the planet has. Your background, experiences, thought process, talents & gifts are uniquely yours! Lean into that and tell your inner critic to shut the F* up!

Say, “NO! Stop it!” and learn to embrace the positive thoughts and confidence.

Whenever you find yourself falling down the rabbit hole of that inner negative critic, stop the thoughts right away and immediately reframe it as a positive thought. Make this a conscious thing and soon it will be a habit and your view of yourself will become more positive.

And whatever you do, don’t buy into other people’s bullshit beliefs. What they think doesn’t have anything to do with you.

Put It Into Action

In your journal list all of the accomplishments that you are proud of. All the way back to when you were a small kid. Did you win the eating contest, spelling bee, get bronze in track and field? Work through your life listing out the things that you did great. When you get to the current time, make a list of 5 things you rocked out this week. Make this a daily habit and you will begin to see your greatness clearly. If you have a down day, read through your list to boost yourself up!
